Experiences from Åndalsnes
Right in the middle of Åndalsnes city center, visitors will find the experience center called Norsk Tindesenter, which is open all year round. Here you can have a go on the climbing wall that has routes for all levels, or take a look at the exhibitions that provide information about the exciting climbing and base jumping history in the area. Visitors can also get a bite to eat in the Tindestua restaurant and do some shopping in the mountain sports shop.
In addition, the center is the starting point for Romsdalsstigen Via Ferrata, and the bus that takes you to the starting point for Romsdalseggen ridge.
In 2011, Lonely Planet named the trip along Romsdalseggen ridge as one of the world’s most beautiful mountain hikes – and not without reason. Visitors get to experience dramatic landscapes and a spectacular view of Trollveggen and several other famous mountain classics. To the southeast, it is possible to see Dalsida Protected Landscape, which extends all the way to Dovrefjell and Sunndalsfjella.
The trip starts with a bus from Åndalsnes city center to Venjedalssetra. From there, the trail is well marked and adapted. The initial climb is tiring and steep, and there are some sections along the ridge where simple climbing is required – well secured with chains. After a while, the ridge becomes wider and there is a pleasant descent all the way down to Nesaksla. Just the last section then remains, down Romsdalstrappa to Åndalsnes, with a compulsory stop at Rampestreken.
Duration: 8 hours
The hike up to the lookout platform “Rampestreken” is an experience you will remember. From here you can enjoy the panoramic view over Åndalsnes, Romsdalen Alps. The starting point is from the center of Åndalsnes. The trail is marked and have stone steps along much of the route. The trail is steep, and the hike is demanding.
Duration: 2-3 hours
Km: 1,7 one way

Chances are high of getting butterflies in your stomach, both for those who have never tried Via Ferrata before and for those who are more experienced. We recommend that visitors take the trip along with a guide, but it is also possible to rent equipment from Norsk Tindesenter and complete a trip on your own. The trip starts in Åndalsnes city center.
