Romsdalseggen ridge

In 2011, Lonely Planet named the trip along Romsdalseggen ridge as one of the world’s most beautiful mountain hikes – and not without reason. Visitors get to experience dramatic landscapes and a spectacular view of Trollveggen and several other famous mountain classics. To the southeast, it is possible to see Dalsida Protected Landscape, which extends all the way to Dovrefjell and Sunndalsfjella.
The trip starts with a bus from Åndalsnes city center to Venjedalssetra. From there, the trail is well marked and adapted. The initial climb is tiring and steep, and there are some sections along the ridge where simple climbing is required – well secured with chains. After a while, the ridge becomes wider and there is a pleasant descent all the way down to Nesaksla. Just the last section then remains, down Romsdalstrappa to Åndalsnes, with a compulsory stop at Rampestreken.

Bus tickets to the starting point in Vengedalen valley must be booked in advance.

Duration: 8 hours
Km: 10
Level: Demanding
