Åmotan

At Åmotan, seven rivers and streams meet in a dramatic fan-shaped river system surrounded by steep cliffs, moraine ridges, and river terraces. Three of these rivers form spectacular waterfalls within the Åmotan gorge.

Botanically, the area is considered one of the richest in Norway, and active farming is still carried out on the mountain farms surrounding the river canyon. Åmotan can be experienced up close via marked hiking trails.

Gjøra–Vangshaugen

Vangshaugen Mountain Lodge in Grødalen was originally built as a hunting lodge by the English businessman and amateur naturalist Ethelbert Lort-Phillips (1857–1943). In 1934, the lodge was purchased by the Kristiansund and Nordmøre Trekking Association, and since then it has served as a gathering place for hikers exploring the majestic Sunndal mountains. From the parking area at Vangshaugen, there are many hiking opportunities, with an extensive trail network in summer and groomed cross-country ski trails during winter. Please note that parking fees apply from 1 November to 30 April.

Gjøra – Grøvudalen and Inner Gammelsetra

Follow the trail through the species-rich mountain pasture valley of Grøvudalen along the River Grøvu and experience traditional summer farming culture. At Inner Gammelsetra, younger generations continue centuries-old mountain farm traditions. The summer farm is open to visitors and offers simple refreshments throughout the summer season. The starting point for hikes into Grøvudalen, including routes to Inner Gammelsetra and Grøvudalen Mountain Lodge, is the parking area at Hallen. The hike is approximately 7 km each way.
